Cervid Livestock Foundation Scholarship 2010

The Cervid Livestock Foundation (CLF) will be offering two $4000 scholarships this year to any 2010 graduating senior entering into an agricultural field of education. The scholarship guidelines and rules can be obtained by visiting the North American Deer Farmers Association website at www.nadefa.org. Our guidelines have changed and we no longer require a NADeFA membership to be eligible for the scholarship. If you have friends or family members who will be graduating from high school this year, please share this information with them.


CLF Scholarship Awards

The Cervid Livestock Foundation (CLF) is the research and educational Foundation of the North American Deer Farmers Assocation (NADeFA).  Each year, the CLF awards two $4000 scholarships. This year’s recipients are Steele Sullivan of Petersburg, Illinois and Keri Bickel of New Vienna, Ohio.  

Steele SullivanSteele Sullivan is currently a senior at Porta High School. Steele plans to attend Illinois College and is seeking a degree in Biology. His career plans are to become a member of the Illinois State Police and to continue his role in the family deer farm. He and his brother, Cavan, are co-founders of Timber Valley Fresh Scent and are members of the North American Deer Farmers Association (NADeFA).

Steele’s activities include football, track, Porta Science Club, FFA, Key Club, FACS Club, 4-H and is a teen mentor. He currently works at Petersburg Veterinary Clinic, his brother’s pheasant farm, and the family deer farm.

 

The next recipient, Keri Bickel, is a senior at East Clinton High School. Keri plans to attend the Ohio State University Ag Tech Institute and is seeking a teaching degree in Agricultural Education. Her career goal is to pursue new methods of alternative farming. 

Keri BickelKeri is very active in FFA and 4-H, winning several champion awards for her participation in county and state fairs. She is also a member of the Key Club, Prom Committee, JOGS and FCCLA. She currently works at Ray-Jo Meadows Farms & Clinton County Classic Racks and helps out on the family dairy farm and deer farm.

 

The Cervid Livestock Foundation and the North American Deer Farmers Association congratulate these students on their accomplishments thus far and wish the very best for them as they proceed with their education.

CLF Scholarship Guidelines and Rules

The amount of scholarships will be $500 per semester, with a maximum of 8 semesters, to be given during the fall and spring semesters only.  These scholarships are awarded based on financial need, character, academics, citizenship and work history.  They are provided for selected graduating high school seniors for the purpose of attending a state accredited 4 year college or university, or a 2 year vocational institution.  This program is for students entering into an agricultural field of education.  No family member of a NADeFA board member shall be eligible. 

The following are qualifying criteria:

  1. The student does not have the means to attend college without some degree of financial assistance.
  2. The Student must complete the Scholarship Application with brief resume attached including work history.
  3. Student is required to submit an application and a 250 to 500 word typed essay entitled “Why I need and deserve this scholarship” to the CLF scholarship committee on or before a specific date.
  4. Four letters of recommendation must be obtained from relationships other than family members.
  5. Based on the essays and qualifications, students will be selected for interviews.
  6. A member or members of the CLF scholarship committee will interview candidates and make final selections.
  7. Scholarship recipients will be announced at graduation ceremonies if possible.
  8. A thank you note is required after scholarship is awarded.  All notes should be sent to the CLF board of directors c/o CLF Scholarship Committee, N4044 Hwy 73, and Gilman, WI  54433.
  9. Student must start school no later than the first full semester following graduation after being awarded the scholarship.
  10. Student must agree to be bound by these guidelines and to meet all reporting requirements.

 

In order to maintain scholarship eligibility:

  1. The recipient must attend and continue to attend a 4 year college or university, or a 2 year vocational institution.
  2. Student must complete on average at least 12 hours per full semester on a cumulative basis.
  3. A grade point average of at least 2.5 must be maintained on a cumulative basis for all college courses taken.  Should this average fall below 2.0 at the completion of any semester the student shall be terminated.  Should the average fall between 2.0 and 2.5 the student shall have the next ensuing semester to attain a 2.5 cumulative.  Should this not be attained the student shall be terminated.
  4. Conviction of a felony will terminate the scholarship.
  5. Permission must be obtained from the CLF scholarship committee before transferring to another institution.
  6. Permission must be obtained from the CLF scholarship committee before changing majors.

  8. Scholarship moneys are available for a period of five years starting June 1st of graduating year and ending May 31st five years later.  An example would be June 1st 2007 ending May 31st 2012 if special events were to occur.  However, no more than 8 semesters shall be paid out.

 

Administration of funds:

  1. The CLF will fund the upcoming semester’s required moneys to the institution being attended prior to the needed date.
  2. The beginning student, before receiving funding, must submit proof of enrollment to the CLF scholarship committee.
  3. Students after completion of each semester must submit grades within 2 weeks of receipt to the CLF scholarship committee to establish continuing eligibility for next semester’s funding.  Grades should be sent to the CLF Scholarship Committee, N4044 Hwy 73, and Gilman, WI  54433.
  4. The CLF scholarship committee will verify student scholarship compliance and fund moneys to the appropriate institution’s financial aid department on a timely basis.
  5. Scholarship moneys can only be spent for tuition, fees, books and room & board.
